Following another successful weekend in the European Le Mans Series, Ollie leads the championship by 4 points heading towards round 3 in Austria.
Ollie and his Ecurie Ecosse teammates Andrew Smith and Joe Tyman fought hard at Imola to take away another podium and a handful of championship points. Andrew Smith started the race up against other team’s much more experienced “Pro” drivers, and enjoyed a safe getaway. After a 50 minute stint, Twyman took over and also settled into a solid rhythm before being handed a 30 second stop go penalty for a pit lane infringement losing the Ecurie Ecosse BMW over 1 minute to their class competitors ahead.
With an hour and a half to go, Twyman pitted and after another faultless turnaround by the Barwell crew Millroy set off in P7 on a double-stint charge. This would be Ollie’s first ever race amongst the much quicker prototypes and so traffic management was a key focus. Some light rain slowed the entire field early on, but with a high ambient temperature the pace picked up again after just a few laps.
By the end of his second stint and while struggling with brake issues, Millroy had climbed to P4 in class, and on the final lap he clinched the podium.
The team left the Italian circuit on Saturday evening delighted to maintain both the drivers and teams championships lead going into the next European Le Mans Series event which takes place at the Redbull Ring in Austria on 19/20 July.
